It's stuck-in-the-flat-because-everything-is-closed Monday. The boys are already bored and at each other's throats. But the flat is clean and school is done and I am making progress on catching up on my things - paying bills, working, blogging. So since we're in the flat, I may as well finally show the pictures I have of the place.
But first, I forgot to blog about last week's hot dog experiment. We found them at Maxima with actual hot dog shaped buns, so figured why not! Jacob had no idea how to cook them without a microwave, so I had to teach him that they can be cooked in just good ole boiling water. The buns had to be hand sliced, so that was the next shock and lesson to be taught. Then we all learned another lesson when we took our first bite - into a plastic casing around the hot dog. Who knew? We had to actually peel the "skin" off of the hot dog before we could eat it. It just tasted like a hot dog, though it had better flavor than an Oscar Meyer. The best thing on this plate, though, are the grapes. They are like candy!
So, here we go -
The front door is in the brown door in the background. We rearranged the furniture, trying to make better use of the space. So now the table is in the space between all of the rooms. To the left are the 2 bedroom doors - ours being the closest door in the picture. To the right is the bathroom door (white) and the door to Sarah's side of the flat (partially opened door towards the back).
Looking in the room at our bed. You can't tell from the lighting here, but our headboard is a deep purple color.
From our bed looking back towards the door. We have a dresser and a wardrobe to hold all of our clothes and stuff.
I took this pictures just a few days after Tyson got here. He's been sleeping in the guest bedroom so he can shut the door when he sleeps at odd times. And it looks just about like his room always does back home. :( We keep the drying rack in here, and just off to the corner on the right is another wardrobe where we store all of our outdoor stuff - coats, hats, gloves, etc.
Looking into the bathroom
A view of our tub/shower
The family/lounging room. We brought in pillows from the beds so we could have them to use on the couch, which isn't very comfortable. The corner "end table" is actually an ottoman, so we can also sit on that.
We are able to hook the computer up to this big screen TV to watch movies and auditions. To the left is...
... our galley-style kitchen. It's not the greatest layout, but we're managing. To the left of the oven is actually a dishwasher (that doesn't work really great) and to the right of the oven is our washing machine, both hidden behind doors. There is space for the washer in the bathroom and we wish it was there and that we had the extra cabinet for storage. We have to store most of our food on the open shelving.
You can see the glass floor above Jacob. If you go up the stairs on the left, you go into...
... the boy's bedroom. This is probably the only time the beds have been made since we got here, but this shows there is some wood flooring up here for a little privacy.
Jacob is standing in front of a shower door. We aren't sure why there is a shower there. A sink would have been more useful. If someone were to shower, they would walk out for all the world to be able to see them! Jacob has been using it as a changing room. You can see here where the wood floor ends and the glass floor begins.
Looking down through the floor - it's a little freaky! It looked a little better before Tyson's stuff exploded everywhere. We wish there were bean bag chairs or something here because it really would be a fun place to hang out.
Looking up at Jacob in his room on the glass floor.
Almost as soon as we got here, Jacob decided to "decorate" the floor of the glass ceiling. Every time we go somewhere new, Jacob adds some new item to our ceiling museum.
Now we're going through the door to Sarah's flat. The hall closets on the left hold all of the extra linens, towels, cleaning supplies and the tankless, instant water heater (a feature we have completely fallen LOVE with). The white door at the end is the bathroom with her bedroom just to the right of it.
Sarah's bathroom - cute.
Sarah's bedroom
Around the corner from Sarah's bedroom is another family room. This window faces north with more fantastic views. We keep the chair in front of the window so we can stand on it and see out. This is our favorite couch to gather on for scripture study at night.
There is a raised counter where we love to play games.
And there is an almost identical galley kitchen. It's nice to have a second washing machine and some extra dishes.
So, there it is! The grand tour of our flat on Town Hall Square.
